Elisabeth Joly est née à Paris. Dès son plus jeune âge, sensibilisée aux Arts Vivants – tels la danse et le théâtre – elle poursuivra son développement artistique aux « Ateliers des Beaux-Arts de la Ville de Paris » par un enseignement soutenu dans le domaine du dessin, de la peinture puis plus tard de la photographie.
LA PEINTURE
Inspirée d’impressions multiples (via des photographies, des films, des visites significatives de Musées, des voyages), son travail est sujet aux inflexions variées d’une personnalité artistique en recherche. Chaque toile tente de donner un sens qui est évoqué même dans le titre de l’œuvre. Sa recherche artistique veut créer avant tout une unité entre le figuratif et l’abstrait.
C’est ainsi que sa peinture révèle des mouvements sur ses toiles, utilisant différentes techniques, les associant ou les dispersant. Parfois, elle oppose des découpes qui confèrent une géométrie, tout en donnant un impact sur les rapports de couleurs, les variétés de formes, les effets de transparence et de rythme.
Son intérêt toujours renouvelé pour la création sert sa peinture qu’elle nous présente comme une synthèse expressionniste d’un univers très personnel animé de rythmes et de couleurs.

LA PHOTOGRAPHIE
Après la peinture, c’est la photographie qui a pris place comme une évidence, visant à créer une autre esthétique par ce médium.
Expositions :
« EXTERIEUR MOI » – Juin 2014 :
Son intention a été de constituer une frise de gros plans de visages d’enfants des années cinquante, soixante – notamment de sa famille – capturés par le biais d’un IPhone ; s’articulant, semblant ou non se donner la réplique, déclenchant peut-être des émotions, des réactions … et avec ce questionnement :
Par l’utilisation de nouvelles technologies de la photographie et à travers ces
portraits : Qu’est-ce qui véritablement distingue les visages d’une époque par rapport à ceux d’une autre époque ?
« LES ATELIERS DES BEAUX-ARTS DE LA VILLE DE PARIS » – Juin 2015 :
Sujet : « Des mots qui font image » – Exposition « Des mots qui font image »
A l’origine, ce sujet a été demandé par le Service Culturel de la Mairie du 14ème arrondissement de Paris auprès desdits Ateliers. Un travail entre photographie et écriture a été effectué pour investir les panneaux informatifs lumineux dispersés dans le 14ème arrondissement. L’intention a été d’aiguiser l’imaginaire des passants, les surprendre, toucher une émotion, créer des secondes de respiration entre les messages. Le travail a donc constitué, pour chacun des photographes, à traduire une image mentale en une image verbale.
Voici la sienne : « Les yeux des passants plongent comme un objectif dans une proximité sensible » et ce en écho avec cette photographie qu’elle a réalisée.
« ENCHEVETREMENT» – Décembre 2015 :
Ici, une volonté de créer l’écriture d’une chorégraphie en images, intitulé : « Enchevêtrement » – Exposition « Enchevêtrement »
Le fil conducteur de « Enchevêtrement » implique une nouvelle recomposition entre la photographie et une dynamique dans l’espace.
Elle a cherché – en assemblant ou en détachant des figures corporelles – à tisser de nouvelles variations chorégraphiques pour aller vers une « Photochorégraphie ». De mouvements corporels, elle a scénarisé, à son tour, leurs postures dans une nouvelle gestuelle.
Ces suites de plans peuvent être interchangeables à l’infini, elle les a fait évoluer dans la manière d’installer les photos ; même si elle a souhaité un certain ordre, ces scènes questionnent sur l’interchangeabilité.
Le langage du corps, n’est-il pas comme celui de la parole, une ouverture sur l’imaginaire avec un double regard sur le monde ?
La danse s’exprime, au-delà du corps, dans l’esprit, le cœur et l’âme.

Elisabeth Joly was born in Paris. From a young age she has possessed a keen interest, followed by years of experience, in art more precisely the expressive arts of dance and theatre. Ms Joly’s artistic direction developed toward the fine arts of drawing and painting, then later on photography, through an apprenticeship with the well-known French institution “Ateliers des Beaux Arts de la ville de Paris”.
PAINTING
Her artistic research strives to create unity between the representational and abstract arts. Equally, her inspiration is derived from many different sources (travel, film, great works and photography) but has always been focused on the subject of an artist in search of her personality and its continuous evolution.
Each canvas has a sense of power and life which is evoqued, not only in the painting itself, but also in the title that it has been given. At play with sharp angles, colours and a variety of forms including the effects of transparency and rhythm; her canvases reveal a sense of movement in each stroke ; both in tandem and dispersed.
With a constant renewal in interest for creation, she opens the door for us to her own personal universe of expressionism animated through rhythm and colour.

PHOTOGRAPHY
In addition to painting, photography became an obvious medium choice, with the aim of creating a new
aesthetic.
Exhibitions:
“EXTERIEUR MOI” (“Exterior Me”) – June 2014:
The artist’s intention was to put together a frieze of close ups of the faces of children from the 1950s and 1960s — especially of children from her own family — captured using an iPhone. This collection highlights points of connection, with images that at times respond to each other to varying degrees, perhaps provoking emotions and reactions … by asking the question:
By using new photographic technologies and by means of these portraits: What is it that truly distinguishes the faces of one time period from those of another?
« LES ATELIERS DES BEAUX-ARTS DE LA VILLE DE PARIS” (“The Paris City Fine Arts Workshops”) – June 2015:
Topic: “Words that Make Images”- Exhibition « Des mots qui font image »
Originally, the Cultural Department of the 14th Arrondissement City Hall of Paris proposed this topic to the Ateliers. It involved working between photography and the written word in order to occupy the informational display screens of the 14th Arrondissement, with the intention of piquing the imagination of passersby, surprising them, creating an emotional response or a moment of respite between messages. Each photographer involved was tasked with translating a mental image into verbal imagery.
Joly’s contribution: “The eyes of the passersby focus like a camera lens on a sensory closeness,” which echoes the photograph she created.
“ENCHEVETREMENT” (“Entanglement”) – December 2015:
Arising from the desire to create an image-based choreography is this work, entitled “Entanglement.” – Exhibition « Enchevêtrement »
The common thread of “Entanglement” implies a new reinterpretation between photography and spatial
dynamics.
Joly sought to forge new choreographic variations — by drawing together or dissociating bodily figures —
in order to move toward a “Photochoreography.” Starting from body movements, she staged postures as a new body language. This succession of shots can be infinitely interchangeable. She has led them to evolve based on how the photos are organized and exhibited; even if she imagined a certain order to the works, these scenes raise questions about interchangeability.
Isn’t body language, like any verbal language, an opening into an imaginary, with a dual outlook on the
world?
Dance is an expression beyond the body, in the spirit, heart, and soul.
